EPO DNA extracts guarantee the identification of the plant in use through DNA barcoding, or molecular identification, is a technique that allows to characterize a living species starting from a small DNA sequence, obtained from a standard part of the genome; the technique is very similar to a supermarket scanner, which identifies the products by reading the sequence of black strokes of the barcode: the sample is identified by looking for the maximum correspondence between the DNA sequence in question and a "reference sequence" contained in a official database. The sequence of nitrogenous bases that makes up the DNA chain is unique in every living species, therefore molecular identification is much more accurate than any other traditional system or technique, such as classical taxonomy or TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography for plants). This guarantees the botanical identity of the extract and its purity, excluding contamination with other botanical species.
